In leading up to the beginning of season 5 we are doing a countdown of our first episodes from the past 4 seasons, while allowing for Dallas and Celeste to take a break from Friday Devotions to plan for season 5. This week we take a look at the Retro Episode Season 3 Episode 2: “How to Discover Who you Are” Originally Aired August 10th 2018. Now this one is different from all our other countdown to S5 episodes because it was the second episode in season 3. Episode 1 of season 3 was a live stream that went 45 minutes. We did not want to subject you to that again. If you would like to see that devotion you can find it on our Youtube channel Geek Devotions in the Season 3 playlist.
In today’s devotion we will be discussing the live action Alice in Wonderland and how to discover who you are. As we were watching the movie one topic stood out above the rest. Everyone was telling Alice who she was and what she should do. “Your face will not last” “You do not want to be a burden” “You can not do any better than Hamish”. Even in wonderland they were telling her that she was not the Alice that they needed. At one point the catapiller Absolem said” you are not that Alice Yet.” So he asked her “Who are you”. Alice had been told by so many people what she needed to be and say, and do, that she had no idea who she really was. Later in the movie Alice is again talking to Absolem and he says” well what do you know, you don’t even know who you are.” To which she replies, yes I do, and launches into this very impressive speech about who she is. Because through the adventures she had realized who she was outside of who people told her she was, though because this was not a christian movie on that very impressive list/speech was never the words child of God.
“For you are all sons of God through trusting in Messiah Yeshua.”
Galations 3:26 TLV
If you believe in God and have accepted His salvation then you are a son or daughter of God. People struggle with their identity even within the church as a whole. People put expectations on you as a christian which can lead you astray, into thinking your identity is in your title”Pastors Kid”,” Worship Leader”, “Media worker”,Nursery Worker”. Those are just your titles, not who you are.
“See how glorious a love the Father has given us, that we should be called God’s children—and so we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him.”
1st John 3:1
This scripture means that you do not need to worry about saying you are a son or a daughter of God. He loves you enough that he wants you to be in His family. He wants you to be more than an friend.
Question of the week: What is your favorite Tim Burton Movie.
