In leading up to the beginning of season 5 we are doing a countdown of our first episodes from the past 4 seasons, while allowing for Dallas and Celeste to take a break from Friday Devotions to plan for season 5. This week we take a look at the Retro Episode Season 2 Episode 1: “What is the point in a second chance?” Originally Aired August 4th 2017. Please forgive our audio and overall video quality as this was our beginning and we have grown greatly since then.

Today we are talking about Terminator 2 Judgement day. Now there is an interesting aspect to T2 and it is this, it is a redemption story for Schwarzenegger’s character. The robot because of the things that took place in T1 had been re-programmed from focusing on his mission at whatever cost to being programmed to be more human like.

This really applies to us as Christians because we have been re-programmed. We were wired for sin, for things that are ungodly. But God hit that reset button through the means of salvation. And out of that reset, that re-wiring we have been given a new mission in life. Sometimes we need grace though, because we may still have bits of our old programming, our bad data from our lives before Christ came in. God has grace for us and gives us 2nd chances, we just have to hit that reset button and accept the grace that He offers us freely.

21 Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: 22 Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail.23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations 3:21-23

The best part about this verse is the statement that His mercies, His grace is fresh every day. Not that this is an excuse to do whatever that is sinful because God will forgive us, but if we are struggling with something then we will have His grace to walk us through those struggles and make the change in your programming to move forward. There is a difference between willful disobedience and you struggling with something that had been programmed into your habits/lifestyle. When there is struggle, God has grace and love for this because He knows that you are trying. Maybe you are one of those people who has not gotten that second chance yet. You think you have done to much, gone to far in order to receive this second chance. We can assure you that is not true! Your sequel can start right now if you choose to surrender to God, to allow Him to hit that reset button on your life and show you grace and forgiveness. He had this plan in place for you long before you ever realized you had bad programming.

“but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

Romans 5:8 ESV

Paul wrote this and he was the epitome of second chances. He wrote this for people like him who he knew would doubt that it was not to late for them. Paul was Schwarzenegger’s character from the first movie when he was still Saul, but then he had an Encounter, and turned from Saul to Paul. We know you think that it has been to bad to get a second chance, to get a sequel but 1st John has something to say about this as well.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

1st John 1:9

This is one of our essential promises in our faith. We are able to come to God and tell Him we have messed up and we need Him in our lives. If you have decided that you are tired of the bad programming, and you are asking God to forgive you and hit that reset button, please contact us! We will pray with you and offer suggestions as to how to walk out this life of faith as you work through the bad programming.

Question of the Week: If you could create a sequel for Any movie(even if there was already a sequel and it was bad) what would it be?
