In Season 4 Episode 8 of Star Trek: Enterprise we see captain Archer come into contact with a group of Vulcans. While with them he discovers that there had been a bombing of an embassy and it was believed to be a group of Vulcans that the Vulcan High Council labeled as terrorists. The Syrranites hadn’t actually bombed the Earth’s embassy, but the leader of the Vulcan High Council made it seem like that because it fit his means. Why would he do that?
The Syrranites were following the teachings of Surak which is very peaceful and very logical series of teachings. The leader of the high counsel wanted something very not peaceful. The problem is that the people of Vulcan hadn’t kept up with the study of the teachings of Surak. They had forgotten what his teachings actually meant. Their failure to continue in study had led them to forget what was and was not within the guidelines.
Let’s look at 2nd Peter 1:5-9
For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.”
Here we see that Peter was talking to a group of people who had not Studied the teachings of Jesus very well, and they didn’t have any desire to. This is why it says this
“For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins.”
We also see in Timothy
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”
2nd Timothy 2:15
