Sometimes God sets you up for something you don’t fully see coming. That’s kind of how Geek Devotions started. We were standing in line at Geek’d Con, chatting with people who were enjoying the day, when we realized something: there were so many folks here who didn’t feel like they fit anywhere else. That moment stirred something in our hearts that eventually became Geek Devotions.

And now, nearly a decade later, we’re getting ready to head out ot Louisiana Delta Comic Con. It’s wild to think how far we’ve come. But before we pack up the cameras and banners, we wanted to take a moment and answer a question that we continue to get, even after serving the geek community for this long…

“Why do you do this?”

The entire concept behind Geek Devotions has always been straightforward: to let people know that they are loved. We’re talking about the person who feels like they don’t belong anywhere, the one who feels invisible. We want them to know that the Creator of the universe sees them and loves them deeply.

When we show up at cons, we’re not there to preach at people. We’re there to love them. Whether they are dressed up as Spider-Man, their favorite anime character, or a stormtrooper (shoutout to the 501st), they matter to God. It’s about living out the heart of John 3:16:

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

That’s the heartbeat behind everything.

Before the Foundation He Loved You

In Ephesians 1:4, it says that God chose us before the foundation of the world. He looked at you with love. That’s huge. It means that before any of us ever breathed a word or set foot on the planet, God already had a plan to save us through Jesus. Romans 5:8 tells us that this plan and its execution took place while we were, and for some still are, lost in our sins. Meaning, He didn’t do it because we had earned it, could earn it, or even deserved it. He did it simply because He loves us.

But here’s the thing. When we choose to follow Jesus, He calls us to make a change. God loves us right where we are, but He also loves us too much to leave us there. For some people, that change is instant. It’s like flipping a light switch, and everything shifts all at once. For others, it’s a slower process. It takes time as God works on our hearts and minds, helping us think differently, build new habits, and live in a way that reflects who He is, as seen through the Scriptures. The Key is letting him do the work in us.

Sin broke that connection between us and God, but Jesus came to fix it. He bridged the gap so we could be close to the Father again. That’s the core message we bring to every con, every video, every conversation: the love of God that never stopped pursuing us.

So how do we do it?

In Matthew 5:16, Jesus says:

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

That’s the call and basic instruction for everyone who calls themselves a follower of Jesus. For us, whether it’s through cosplay, comics, or conversation, we’re here to shine that light, bringing hope into geek culture and reminding people that they’re not forgotten.

We want people to know that even in a crowd, they’re seen. Even in fandoms that are sometimes labeled or overlooked, God still loves them and has a purpose for their lives.

As we get ready for Louisiana Delta Comic Con, we’re praying for every person we’ll meet. We’re asking God to help us be a light to someone who really needs to hear that they’re loved and that there’s still hope.

So if you’re reading this and you’ve ever felt unseen, remember this: You are loved, you are cared for, and there is a plan and a purpose for your life. Don’t give up.
