Recently Celeste has been watching Disney+’s The Muppet Mayhem. This comedy show follows everyone’s favorite band, Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, as they journey to create their first album. But the unlikely hero of the show is not a music super star… but a groupie named Moog. How does this apply to our lives? Join us to find out!

In the new series The Muppets Mayhem, we see the Electric Mayhem working on trying to create an album that a company back in the 70s had paid them for. Nora, the lady working for the record label, is in search of someone to produce this album. She and the band call in all kinds of different pros, to attempt to produce this album, but it is just not working out. Nora finds her solution in the most unlikely place. In the first episode, we meet a “MayHead” called Moog.

Moog is a big fan of the band. He’s been to nearly every single show they’ve done in his lifetime. He is truly what one would call a “superfan.” Throughout the first several episodes, he tries to get Nora to hear out his opinions on what the band needs. He also spends a lot of time trying to get Nora to listen to his mixtape. Unbeknownst to us, the mixtape that he created in his van/travel trailer is not a set of his personal music. It’s actually remixes of the band’s!

As it turns out, it’s actually a pretty amazing album that perfectly highlights the best of the band but brings it into a modern world. Nora had no idea that the person to produce the album was right under her nose the entire time. It’s this idea of misjudging someone who’s right under our noses that brings us to this week’s thought.

In 1st Samuel 16:1-12, we see Samuel going to choose the next King after Saul, from the house of Jesse. Now we know that Jesse had a lot of kids and a lot of Sons. Jesse gathered all his sons, except for David, to stand before Samuel. Samuel looked over these strong and mature young men asking God… “God is this him? Is this the next King?” To Samuel and Jesse’s despair, God repeatedly told him no, that they were not. God even said not to look at outward appearance because God was not looking at such things. God was looking at the inward appearance.

You see, God had been watching David much like he watches over us and had seen his faithfulness. God took notice of David’s skills and knew that He was what the people of Israel needed. David didn’t look like what Samuel had expected, but he was what God had chosen.  Let this be a reminder to you that God has placed things in you that you may think goes unnoticed, but God sees it all. There might be things in you that you don’t even realize are there, but God has placed them in you and has a plan and a purpose for your life.
