SpyxFamily just hit Crunchyroll and wow it’s fascinating! One interesting aspect about the show is how Loid Forger is always so busy and on top of things… that when he finally stops… he falls out because of how exhausted he is. We all have busy season, but we also need to find rest. Today on Geek Devotions; Celest shares with us 3 tips to find rest.
Written Devotional
SpyxFamily is an anime that has just been released to Crunchyroll as of last week and is released weekly. In the first episode, we meet Loid Forger (Twilight), the top spy for his organization, as he gets an assignment that requires the unexpected. A family. As we follow the plot, he puts things into place; first, he adopts a child to serve as his “daughter.” Anya is an adorable child who is a telepath, so even though Loid has not told her what’s going on, yet she does know and works her hardest to help him in his mission. At the end of the episode, we see when Anya makes it into the prestigious school that they need her to get into. After worrying about Anya getting into the school is released, Twilight relaxes. It is the first time he has relaxed in so long that his body immediately collapses on the grass. In the internal monologue, you hear Twilight says, “When was the last time I relaxed?”
This moment in the show brought a lot of conversation about rest to the mind. Specifically why it’s important and how to find it.
Twilight lived in such a state of constant stress that his body could not handle the concept of being relaxed even for a short time. While most of us do not live in that heightened state of panic at all times, It’s been a rough few years for everyone. According to an article released by the “World Health Organization,”
In the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic, global prevalence of anxiety and depression increased by a massive 25%, according to a scientific brief released by the World Health Organization (WHO) today”

Even if you had everything in life under control before all of this happened, as a world, we are more stressed-out than we were, making knowing how to slow down and rest that much more important. Now, this is not a new problem or conversation. The Bible is full of scriptures that explain and demonstrate why resting is essential and specifically why resting in God is essential. The ones that stand out to me most are Psalm 4:8 and Psalm34:8, though we will have references to a few others in the description.
Psalm4:8 (English Standard Version)
In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
Psalm 34:8 (English Standard Version)
Bonus Scriptures
Now, these scriptures are great reminders, but you like practical applications to things if you are like me. So here are…
3 Practical ways to find rest
- Say no, even if it means canceling something. This past week we canceled our Tuesday night stream because we knew that this week would be hectic. Dallas and I didn’t do anything other than eat dinner and watch anime, but for us, that is rest.
- Do something that restores you, whether that is watching anime, binging an entire series, reading a good book, or sleeping in and not getting out of bed.
- Dive deeper into your Bible. For me, I find a great deal of peace in a study method that’s called “Verse Mapping.” This process helps me slow down, focus on scripture, and block out any stresses that I have going on.
