Today we are talking about WW84 and we need to warn you that the devotion is heavily based on the end of the movie so… Here is your spoiler warning.
In the movie we are shown a wishing stone. A stone that will grant any wish but also at a cost. Earlier in the film Diana flippantly makes a wish for Steve to return without completely realizing what had happened. We find out that the cost, for Steve’s return is a weakening of her powers. And the only way to reverse the cost is to renounce the wish. At one point in the movie Diana is yelling at Steve that she does so much for so many people … Why can’t she have this one thing… This one wish.
See the truth of the matter is that Steve was already gone. He had died back in WW2, but Diana had been unwilling to accept this truth, as hard as it was. She felt she deserved to have this one thing even if it wasn’t true… Or honestly… good.
As Christian’s we can easily fall into the trap of this mindset. Why can’t I have this thing, when I do all the other things for God? Why can’t I have this one thing even if it’s harmful to myself, and weakening me… Because I do so many other things. But here’s the thing, if what you are clinging to isn’t godly, if it’s weakening your Christian walk, even if it’s not “terrible”… It’s not good.
Paul says this is Romans:
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?
Romans 6:1-3
Even if the thing you are clinging to hurts no one but yourself, it’s still hurting you. Release those things and walk in the grace of God. Let go of these things that slowly pulling you away from true happiness and peace.
