As we wrap up Geekmas 2018, Dallas takes a look at the infamous “Star Wars – Holiday Special.” Watching this tragic film, Dallas realized something interesting. While it’s now New Hope, it does teach you about what happens when hope is deferred.
In Stars Wars Holiday Special, Chewbacca’s family is worried sick about their Husband/Father/Son. They know he’s supposed to be home from “Life Day,” but something is wrong. No one seems to know where he is, and on top of that, the imperial troops have descended on to their planet. Their hope has been deferred, and it has made them ill.
This is a super relatable emotion for many of us. In fact, we find truth in the book of Proverbs accompanied with the other side of that mindset….
Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
Proverbs 13:12 English Standard Version (ESV)
We see that tree of life take place in this film when Chewbacca returns home. His family is overwhelmed with joy as their desire to see their loved one has been fulfilled.
In this week’s episode, Dallas encourages us to hold on to those things that we desire and have been praying for. Yes, it is painful to wait for something for so long, but don’t lose hope. When it finally happens, when a God-given desire is fulfilled, you will have joy and happiness. If we can pray with you about anything feel free to email us here at geekdevotions@gmail.com or you can message us on any of our social media. We also would love to hear the stories of the tree life moments in your life!
