Kids

Astro Boy MovieHoward recommends the 2009 Astro Boy Movie. He says it’s a great film for kids that’s action packed, great kids humor, and even some humor for the parents in the room.

IMDB Description: When an android replica of a boy is rejected by his aggrieved creator, he goes off to find his own identity in an adventure that would make him the greatest hero of his time.

Netflix Dreamworks Voltron

Dallas suggests the new Netflix version of Voltron. The series is full of humor and it has just the right amount of nostalgia for mom and dad to enjoy while watching with their kids.

Teens

Gundam SeedA great sci-fi anime for teenagers is Mobile Suite Gundam Seed. This is a great series that shows the seriousness of war, the struggles of teenagers when faced with certain realities, and the consequences of actions. It also has a sequel series called Gundam S Destiny which we also highly recommend.

IMDB Description: The discovery of an advanced model of combat mecha on their space colony throws a young man and his friends into involvement in an interplanetary war as the crew of a powerful fighting ship.

Adults

Godzilla: Planet of MonstersFor adults Howard really recommends the new animated Godzilla series; Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters, that just came to Netflix. This new film hits many of the right notes for long time Godzilla fans while using modern anime techniques to reach a newer audience.

IMDB Description: Years into the future and the human race has been defeated several times by the new ruling force of the planet: “kaijus”. And the ruler of that force is Godzilla, The King of the Monsters. Humanity is in such defeat, plans to leave the planet have been made, and several people have been chosen to look at a new planet to see if it is inhabitable. Realizing it’s not, though, the human race resorts to plan B: to defeat Godzilla and take back their planet.

Space Pirate Captain HarlockDallas thinks that adults may enjoy Harlock: Space Pirate. If you’re a long time anime fan you’ll recognize the famed Space Pirate. He’s always been a symbol of adventure and honor. This new CGI version of Harlock is a bit darker than previous versions but with it being a movie it is easy for adults to watch and enjoy in the midst of their busy lives.

IMDB Description: Mankind is dying. Only one man can do anything about it, Space Captain Harlock, but the Gaia Coalition will stop at nothing to end him.
