Written Devotional

Greetings, Geek Devotions family! We are thrilled to dive into today’s episode with a powerful message inspired by the 2023 Netflix show “The Brothers’ Sun.” This series follows two brothers, Charles and Bruce, who grew up in vastly different environments.

Charles, heir to the Triads, lived a life shrouded in the world of gangsters and crime. On the flip side, Bruce, raised in America with dreams of becoming a doctor (and improv actor), was blissfully unaware of his family’s dark connections. His mom, with good intentions, shielded him from the violent reality, hoping to provide him with a safer and better life.

However, this protective shield turned out to be a double-edged sword. While pursuing his medical career in the U.S., Bruce remained oblivious to his family’s tumultuous past. Bruce was utterly unprepared for the chaos that unfolded when the shadows of their life in Taiwan caught up with them in Los Angeles.

As we witness Bruce’s struggles in the show, we can’t help but draw parallels to our own lives. How often do we, like Bruce’s mom, try to shield our children and others from the hardships we’ve faced? The desire to protect our loved ones is natural, but as we’ll discover, it might not always be the best course of action.

Bruce’s lack of knowledge about his family’s history becomes a stumbling block when faced with the challenges of his past catching up with him. His mom’s attempts to shield him from the truth proved a disservice, leaving him unprepared to navigate the storms that arose.

In our Christian journey, a similar scenario unfolds in the biblical account of King Josiah in 2 Kings 22 and 23, as well as 2 Chronicles 34 and 35. Israel, during Josiah’s reign, had forgotten their identity as God’s people. Josiah stumbled upon the scriptures, realizing they were meant to follow. His reaction is swift, the correct path – a radical cleansing to align with God’s design.

Drawing a connection to our lives, we often find ourselves hesitating to share the hardships and less-than-ideal parts of our testimonies. It’s an everyday struggle to expose our vulnerabilities, fearing judgment or shame. However, the transformative power of Jesus’ grace and mercy allows us to turn our past shortcomings into a testimony of redemption.

The takeaway from today’s devotional is simple but profound – share your stories. Your testimony has the power to help others in need, and it might just be the encouragement someone requires. By sharing the things God has done and delivered us from, we set a precedent for His miraculous works in our future.

As we wrap up, I encourage you to reflect on the impact of testimonies you’ve heard from others. How have these stories helped or encouraged you?
