Celeste wraps up our Gotham City Gospel Month with a look at Batman: Bad Blood! This movie featured a very intense scene where Batman’s family friends are both in danger and his only hope. Often people wonder why Batman has friends… well Bad Blood answer that question. This scene reminded Celeste of the need for friends and made her ask, why did Jesus have friends?

Today we are going to be talking about the animated movie Bad Blood. Crazy things are happening in this movie and just for transparency… I only watched the last ten minutes of the film. In the movie, Talia Al Ghul has taken mind control of Batman, and in the final scene, she is trying to force Batman to shoot Robin, who at this point is Damien. Nightwing is there, and when he tries to stop Bruce, he is knocked to the side.

Nightwing then tries a different approach, he talks to Batman and tells him ” Bruce… you don’t kill. You’ve never killed. Don’t let her win. Don’t let her take your soul.”

In those few words… Bruce is reminded who he is. He is reminded of what he stands for. And he is reminded of what he needs to do.

We are all humans. We all have times where we wonder if what we are doing is worth it. Maybe we even have someone in our lives, pushing us to do things we know is not what we need to do. Perhaps it’s something that goes against our very beliefs. These times, these experiences are why we need people in our lives that we trust. The ones that we give permission to tell us that we are going down a very wrong path. We need people to hold us accountable to the things God has called us to. The standards that all Christian’s need to keep. God has put people in your life to be there for you during your hardest times, and to help you not fall away, or be led away from His will for your life. In all four of the gospels, we see that Even Jesus needed friends, though his ultimate reliance was on God.

In Matthew 26:36‭-‬39, we see a fantastic example of the Priority of friendship that Jesus had with his disciples.

“Then Yeshua comes with them to a place called Gethsemane, and He tells the disciples, “Sit here, while I go over there and pray.” And He took along Peter and Zebedee’s two sons, and He began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then He tells them, “My soul is deeply grieved, even to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with Me.” Going a little farther, He fell face down and prayed, saying, “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me! Yet not as I will, but as You will.”

Jesus had his group of friends, and then from there, he had his friends that he trusted to tell he was troubled… And then he went a bit away and spoke only with father God. We need people in our life to do life with, but we also need a few to take with us and let them know what’s going on. So they can be praying with us as we speak to God.
That’s your devotion for the week. I hope you enjoyed it.
Question of the week: What has been your favorite Batman story out of his 80 years?
