This week on Geek Devotions Celeste travels down the rabbit hole as we talk Alice in Wonderland and ask the question, “Where do you find your identity?”

In Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland, Alice finds herself in a peculiar situation. In the “real world” everyone was telling her who and what she was supposed to be. People in her life were telling her crazy things like “your face won’t last,” “you don’t want to be a burden,” or that she couldn’t get a man any better than Hamish.  Even in Wonderland, she was being told that she wasn’t “The Alice” they needed or even wanted. When asked by the caterpillar, Absolem, “Who are you?” Alice is at first unable to give an answer. Later in the film, she gives a very inspiring speech which of course is a significant turning point in the movie. But with all of this going on, we couldn’t help but ask the following questions to you devoted geeks.

Who are you and where does your identity come from?

For you are all sons of God through trusting in Messiah Yeshua
Galatians 3:26 (Tree of Live Version)

When you put your faith in Jesus, we finally can honestly know who we are.  Many in the faith walk around acting as “spiritual orphans.” In truth, they know the Lord, and they know his word yet for some reason they seem lost. Either there has been no one to disciple them, or perhaps the social pressures of walking out their faith seems too daunting. Yet we should not look down on our title as sons and daughters because it is indeed a fantastic thing.

See how glorious a love the Father has given us, that we should be called God’s children—and so we are!…
1 John 3:1 (Tree of Life Version)

In the above verse, we are told that the love of God, our Heavenly Father, is in fact glorious. It is solely due to the grand magnitude of His divine love that we can even be given this title, Child of God. When we understand the weight of it, we should embrace this title. It is when you embrace your identity that you can do something truly spectacular, walk this life as a Christian in the real victory.

It was only after Alice grasped the concept of her identity as a daughter of her father was she able to obtain the confidence to fight. Understanding what he had imparted to her courage and ability to stand in the gap and defeat the evil that plagued the land.

So our question to you is this… are you willing to stand up and fight. Have you embraced your title as Child of God? Maybe you’re struggling and want more info on how to live a child of God… if so we’d like to encourage you to sit down with your pastor or other leadership members at your church. Allow them to walk you through the scriptures and help you discover more about what it means to be a Child of God. As always if you have any prayer requests or have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments or message here at Geek Devotions via Social Media or email us at geekdevotions@gmail.com
