A special live episode of Geek Devotions where we talk about the awkwardness about Good Intentions found in Jurassic Park 3. Have you done something you thought was a good idea only to realize it wasn’t? How do we avoid that?
Dr. Grant and Billy discovers a series of velociraptor nests and naturally is not happy about the situation. He warns his companions to stay away from them and that they need to get off the Island as soon as possible. However, Billy saw something different, he saw an opportunity. Billy decides to take some because he wants to be able to use them to raise money to save their work.
This was a sound idea in his eyes, but there were things he didn’t think of. What he didn’t realize was that by taking the eggs, he put the entire group in more danger than they already were. When Dr. Grant realized what happened he immediately questioned Billy. Billy explained that he had good intentions, but these good intentions had led to a rather awkward situation.
How often have you found yourself in this very kind of situation? You’ve made plans with good intentions but found them backfiring on you in a monumental way. Why is this? Check out what the book of Proverbs has to say about our plans…
All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes,
but the Lord weighs the spirit.
God has a way of seeing through the things to the true intentions of man. Sure you may be coming to the situation with what appears to be good intentions, but the Lord sees beyond what appears to be good intentions to you. So what do we do? How do we go about making plans for life and ensure that our good intentions are God’s intentions?
Commit your work to the Lord,
and your plans will be established.
Here we see that the key to making plans and ensuring that our good intentions are God’s intentions is submitting them to the Lord. The question then is how do we do that? How do we connect to Him and allow Him to direct our decisions? In this episode, we discussed 3 steps to doing so.
Seek God in prayer, through times of fasting, and in the scriptures. These are essential spiritual disciplines for Christians and are key to seeking God’s direction. So what happens if you’ve been steadily doing these things but you’re still unsure what you should do? If these 3 things are key to finding God’s will, and you’ve been active in them then chances are you are in God’s will, so choose one.
