The question of the Day: Have you ever tried to hide something from God, realized it was tearing you up and finally gave it over to Him? What was that process like for you?
If you’re not familiar with The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), the super brief summation from IMDB reads:
A research team is sent to the Jurassic Park Site B island to study the dinosaurs there while another team approaches with another agenda.
So very, very brief.
That other agenda was to capture some of the dinosaurs and bring them back stateside to San Diego and open a new Jurassic Park. Through a series of heart-pounding unfortunate events, they are only able to come back with a male T-Rex and a Baby T-Rex. They placed the male into a cargo ship and sent him off. Due to some major miscalculations, the dino escaped the cargo hold, killed the grew, and ran off into the middle of the city. Kind of like Godzilla (1999) but better.
Besides the glaring the issue with bringing a Dinosaur into the city, there was another major problem that these guys had. They were trying to handle something big without knowing how to do it properly. An issue that honestly, many of us run into. How many times have you had a struggle pop up that you thought you could handle, only to find it rampaging through your life like a tyrannosaurus rex in the middle of the city?
You’re not alone in this, the famed King David had a similar issue. In 2 Samuel 11, David is alone walking around his palace when he sees a beautiful woman bathing. I know what you’re thinking, “creeper, stop looking!” That would be the best advice you could give a guy, but instead, he does something dumb. He decides he can handle this himself. He ends up calling on the woman, sleeping with her, getting her pregnant, then through a series of events trying to hide his sin, he ends up killing her husband.
How did this happen? He didn’t take care of things appropriately on the front end. Feelings of attraction, anger, desire, etc are all normal. But you need to surrender those thoughts and desires to God, otherwise, you’ll end up with a raging, hungry tyrannosaurus rex that’s rampaging through your life. We have to take every thought captive. Look at the words of Paul in 2 Corinthians 10:5:
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ
Don’t allow the enemy to have ground in your life. Admitting that you need help and surrendering things to God doesn’t make you weak, it makes you responsible. Surrendering things to Him means that you have placed your relationship with God above the other things in your life.
